How To Make Your Characters Believable….
In order for me to make my characters believable, I have to let them inside my head. Take over, and completely take control of my overall thought process. This is the easiest way I’ve found to be able to see their realistic actions or words because they become a part of me. Sometimes, I have to take a situation and decide first how I would react to it, then how they, the character, will react to that situation and more often than not we disagree.
Vivienne – In Give Me Reason is probably one of my hardest characters because she is very real in my mind but yet she doesn’t respond to things the way that I think she should respond to them. Her history is very dark, and painful, and it is not really something I can relate too. So I relied on a lot of outside opinion while writing her story because I needed to see the reactions that she would generate.
Physically believable is something that is a lot harder to do. Take Mikah for example – the images in my head of what he looks like shifts and changes each time I see him and it’s because I want you, as the reader, to bring your own version of Mikah alive. Turn him into what YOU want him to be and not what I want him to be.

Vivienne Callahan has known only hardship. As if growing up with an alcoholic, drug addicted mother wasn’t traumatic enough, she’s escaped from her physically and verbally abusive boyfriend only to struggle every day to make ends meet as a waitress in a Minneapolis diner.
Along comes Mikah Blake, a handsome stranger who quickly takes an unexpected and persistent interest in her. On the surface, “Mr. Suit” seems to be Vivienne’s opposite: rich, well-fed, successful. As Vivienne will learn, Mikah is more than he seems, and for reasons unknown, he’s determined to be her knight in shining armor. But after having finally found her own two feet after years of abuse, it’s difficult for her to accept Mikah’s help.
Will her body’s unexpected response to Mikah’s touch be reason enough to overcome her pride and traumatic past and learn to love and trust? Or will her past, refusing to be left behind, come back to claim her?
